Unique credit union for the residents of remote Bearskin Lake
In July of 2005, the Wasaya Group Inc. of Thunder Bay, representing a partnership of 10 First Nation communities, set out to examine the potential of establishing an Aboriginal credit union in Northern Ontario. Ultimately, the remote community of Bearskin Lake First Nation, a community of 400 residents located 425 kilometres north of Sioux Lookout, was chosen for the pilot project.
