Whom We Serve

All CESO assignments are designed to support an employee/manager or group of employees/managers to learn and apply skills that are required to do their work more effectively. CESO Volunteers are advisers, not consultants.

Working with Individuals

  • Mentoring/coaching and support for individual managers/staff on job specific skills. For example:
    • Guiding and assisting mentor/ trainee teams to carry out their mentoring process more effectively.
    • Coaching staff with limited experience in many fields, to, for example: set goals, develop work plans, improve communication skills, strengthen leadership skills, develop Human Resources management skills, program policy development skills and information technology skills–in their own work settings
  • Support the development of skills and capacity in specialized or technical fields, such as:
    • Community development
    • Municipal government (e.g. roles of Council, or writing and managing by-laws)
    • Financial administration, budgeting
    • Economic development and small business development, marketing
    • Environmental protection (e.g. water testing)
    • Employment equity
    • Program evaluation, operational reviews

Working with Organizations, at the Department, Community Government, or agency level to strengthen the overall institution.

  • Longer-term mentoring and support to improve overall agency functioning related to:
    • Training needs assessment and preparation of department training strategies including supporting train-the-trainers programs within departments
    • Helping management teams to implement planning and evaluation processes
    • Building collaborative management teams (improved meetings, communication management strategies and decision-making processes)
    • Supporting the effective implementation of Inuit Employment Plans
    • Creating supportive work environments for Inuit employees
