Make Poverty History 2006 White Band Days
August 13-18, 2006 In mid-August, 2006, the eyes of the world will be on Toronto, when the XVI International AIDS Conference takes place. Make Poverty History supporters will also be present, at displays, marches and other activities. Since the G8 leaders promised in July 2005 to double aid to Africa by 2010, three million people will have died from AIDS-related diseases. The hardest-hit people are the poor. Make Poverty History supporters will make the links between AIDS, debt and poverty.
September 16-October 17, 2006 From September 16 until October 17 (the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty), White Band Day events will take place around the world. This period is the global campaign's main focus, so events are likely to take place in more than 70 countries. In Canada last year, over 50 communities held events, and we're expecting even more to take place in 2006.
