The Canadian Executive Service Organization (CESO) is a unique, volunteer-based, not-for-profit organization founded in 1967. Public Engagement Officer
SUMMARY
We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual who will work on contract and be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of the Public Engagement (PE) program within the international department. The Public Engagement program aims to build awareness in the general public and media about the results of Canadian official development assistance in international development programs delivered through volunteer cooperation.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Development
- Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for the CESO Public Engagement strategy
- Plan, liaise, and cultivate relationships with potential CESO partners and program stakeholders
- Scout and establish public engagement networking and public engagement mobilization opportunities
- Manage the creation of high-quality printed materials to promote CESO International Services
Development of PE materials and tools
- Develop content for Public Engagement webpages including information about CESO international work and the role and achievements of volunteer cooperation
- Contribute to the ongoing review and improvement of the CESO Web site to ensure it serves as an effective portal for PE
- In collaboration with program staff, create and update materials to ensure that information available on the CESO International Services Web pages is consistently reflective of program best practices and achieved results
Events, Mobilization, and Outreach
- Plan and coordinate Public Engagement events across Canada as the need arises
- Coordinate the Department's participation in international events and networks, in-Canada, Department workshops and conferences (budget, logistics, communication)
- Mobilize and inform CESO VAs and staff to raise awareness via community and professional associations, Rotary and Lions Clubs, trade organizations, schools, universities, libraries and other groups
- Create plans and tools to keep VAs engaged and updated in international development issues and trends
Writing and research
- Write various forms of ad and/or brand copy regarding CESO
- Assist in writing and editing of various organization-wide publications including the Annual Report, brochures, and program briefing documents
Finance
- Contribute to and manage the development of program budgets to ensure adequate incorporation of the PE component
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Fluent bilingualism in English and French (verbal, reading and writing)
- Degree or equivalent in communications with knowledge of International Development issues and trends
- Excellent professional writing and editing skills
- Ability to act independently under high pressure time and budgetary restrictions
- Excellent presentation skills; diplomatic and flexible
- Strong computer skills (Windows, Mac) especially with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
- Strong web design and implementation skills (both proprietary and open-source platforms), some comfort with coding, and capacity to learn fast as needed
- Willingness and ability to travel within Canada and internationally
