The Canadian Executive Service Organization (CESO | SACO) is a unique, volunteer-based, not-for-profit organization founded in 1967. CESO | SACO has a staff of 65 employees across Canada and 22 abroad. It has a roster of over 2700 Volunteer Advisers. Its mission is to build capacity in governance and economic development through the transfer of knowledge and skills by Volunteer Advisers. CESO | SACO is seeking a:

President & CEO

OVERVIEW

As President and Chief Executive Officer, you are a strategic thinker that leads and directs the business of the organization under the guidance and approval of the Board of Directors. You are responsible for ensuring that CESO | SACO's contribution in Canada and abroad is consistent with the organization’s mission, vision and values. You are responsible for the development and implementation of CESO | SACO's strategic plan, leveraging the knowledge and experience of CESO | SACO's employees and Volunteer Advisers. You have strong interpersonal skills, a proven ability to network with NGO's, governments and the business community. You understand the major trends, issues and challenges in the international and Aboriginal community development.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Leads the senior management team in the development and implementation of the organization's strategic direction.
  2. Reviews and approves operating and business development plans, budgets, capital and expenditure budgets, performance and compensation programs.
  3. Reviews and recommends policies to the Board and implements procedures for the effective management of the organization.
  4. Identifies and fosters effective relationships with appropriate government, business, NGO and community leaders to promote CESO | SACO's capabilities and maximize CESO | SACO's growth and effectiveness in Canada and abroad.
  5. Fosters and leads the development of positive employee, Volunteer Adviser, client and funder relationships.
  6. Represents CESO | SACO at National and International Volunteer Adviser Forums and briefs the Board on Volunteer organization issues and directions.
  7. Reports to and takes direction from the Board of Directors.

SELECTION CRITERIA

    • University Degree (minimum)
    • Bilingual (French/English) essential
    • Minimum 15 years organizational leadership
    • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
    • Working with and leading volunteers an asset
    • International and Aboriginal development experience strongly preferred
    • Board governance experience an asset
    • Executive Leadership experience of an NGO or Not-for-Profit organization preferred
    • Government relations development experience an asset
