Resources for Shipping Donations Overseas

Our volunteers often collect large quantities of donated material such as wheelchairs, sewing machines, computers, books, etc., but shipping is problematic.

The following is a list of organizations that can provide free shipping of donated material to various overseas locations.

Canadian Foodgrains Bank

This program is a Christian-based food aid and development organization that collects donations of grain, cash and other agricultural commodities for distribution to the world's hungry.

International Book Bank, Inc.

The International Book Bank is a nonprofit
distribution service for books and other
educational materials donated by North
American publishing companies and the
education community. IBB distributes these
materials to nonprofit organizations such as
schools and community libraries in developing countries around the world.

FASOnline - Food Aid Programs

Under American Public Law 480, USAID has a program for the purpose of shipping donated items.  Shipping must take place from the US.

Additional Ideas for shipping materials:

1) Contact the local country specific organization in your community. These organizations are usually a good contact because they are often willing to fundraise to ship materials back to their country of origin.

2) Place an ad in a shipping magazine (ie. Cargo Express) asking to be notified if anyone has space available in containers going overseas.

3) AirTransat - Sometimes they will ship materials on one of their charter flights.
