SENEGAL––Just as lowering production costs is an integral component in business, increasing nutrition is important in maintaining human life. CESO recently took part in an exciting new initiative to bring about both of these two results with just one assignment.
The Economic Forum for Women Entrepreneurs in Kaolack (EFFEK, in French), one of CESO’s partners, is composed of 75 female entrepreneurs involved in various activities, such as telephone services, catering and processing local products.
In April, CESO and EFFEK organized training in household gardening to support female chefs and restaurateurs, hosted by volunteer Etienne Pouliot. Training focused on the techniques the women could use to run their own garden, produce vegetables at the lowest costs, and improve family nutrition.
Three months after the training, the 15 women who attended have adopted these gardening practices with very satisfactory outcomes. These women are capable, by themselves, of running their gardens and tending the crops until harvest.
